Betalbatim Sporting Club defeated Wilred Leisure Sports Club, Curtorim 2-1 to storm into the semi-finals of Verna Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Verna SC at Verna ground, on Friday. Betalbatim were leading 2-0 at the breather.
Betalbatim dominated the opening sessions with their forwards and midfielders working in tandem to put the rival defence under tremendous pressure.
Their persistent forays paid off when striker Allwick Fernandes punished the rival goalkeeper with snap shots.
The early goal spurred Betalbatim to mount pressure on the rival citadel and were rewarded when Denzil Rogtao slotted past the rival goalkeeper with Allwick’s assistance.
Crossing over, Betalbatim slackened their pace but did not allow their rivals any space to manoeuvere inside the rival territory and kept their citadel intact.
Wilred Leisure were in full cry during the last ten minutes and scored the consolation goal through Peter Pereira who punted the ball to the far corner of the net.
