MARGAO: Betalbatim Sporting Club edged past United Club Benaulim 5-3 via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of the 26th Super Soccer tournament organized by United Boys of Dando, Colva at St John the Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Thursday.
In the first half, UC Benaulim were leading by a goal scored in the very second minute through Lezly Fernandes, whose well composed free-kick crushed into the nylons of Betalbatim.
Betalbatim tried to regroup and came close to scoring in the fifth minute but Austin Fernandes’ header hit the goal post and went out of play.
Crossing over, Benaulim tried to score but Joaquim Fernandes’ grounder was easily collected by the rival goalkeeper.
Betalbatim finally equalized in the 43rd minute through Anthony Rodrigues off an assist from Frazier Rogtao.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Betalbatim scored through Robert Fernandes, Klinsman Pereira, Francis Rodrigues and Lumnur Pereira while for UC Benaulim Sunny Rodrigues and Jaison Pereira scored.
