RAIA: Bethany Convent High School, Sao Jose de Areal, edged past Rosary High School, Navelim, 2-1 in the final to emerge champions in the St Joseph Vaz Soccer Cup 9-a-side U-17 inter-school football tournament organised by Mount Mary Educational Complex, Chinchinim, at Chinchinim church ground, on Tuesday.
Bethany Convent HS scored their first goal in the 14th minute through Josley Gomes. Soon, Lyod Rocha doubled the lead in the 16th minute. At half time Bethany Convent High School were leading 2-0.
After the lemon break, Rosary High School pulled a goal back through the efforts of Sam Pereira in the 22nd minute.
Winners Bethany Convent High School took home cash prize of Rs 15,000 with a trophy, while runners-up Rosary High School had to be content with Rs 10,000.
Chief guest Parish Priest of Holy Family Church, Porvorim, Fr Caetano Fernandes gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of General Secretary of PVC Parra Gregory D’Souza, Fr Jose Antonio Da Costa, Chinchinim Sarpanch Valentino Barreto, Franco Martin and other dignitaries.
