Bharath clinches top spot

PANJIM: M Bharath drew with Tatvesh Sawant in the final round to remain undefeated and clinch the top spot in under-13 open chess selection tournament organized by Salcete Taluka Chess Association on behalf of Goa Chess Association at Lingayat Hall, Margao.

Bharath tallied a total of six points out of seven rounds. 
Anant Prabhudesai got the better of Aston Dias to clinch the second place with 5.5 points while Shane Braganza (5.5) stood third after defeating Gaurav Madkaikar. 
Rajaryan Kuvelkar beat top seed Nitish Belurkar to stand fourth. Tatvesh Sawant stood fifth while Anirudh Parsekar beat Sumukh Pinge to stand sixth.
In the under-13 girls section, Aditee Prabhugaonkar drew with Urvi Bandekar in the final round to win the title with five points. 
Urvi Bandekar stood second with 4.5 points. Riddhi Zantye (4.5) beat Aishwarya Thorat to stand third. Krystal Fernandes (4) drew with Swera Braganza (4) to finish fourth.
Sakshi Naik Gaonkar stood fifth with four points after drawing with Reema Naik. Swera Braganza finished sixth.  
In all, 51 boys and 26 girls participated.
The top two boys and top four girls will represent Goa at the Nationals to be held in Pondicherry.
Vinay Tendulkar, president of Goa Chess Association was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Ashesh Keni, president of Salcete Taluka Chess Association (STCA), Damodar Zambaulikar, secretary STCA and Sanjay Kavlekar, chief arbiter.
