MAPUSA: Bidesh XI stunned crowd pullers Milagres Sports Club by 5-2 margin to end their unbeaten run in the ongoing GFA’s 2nd Division league of the fifth round, at Duler stadium, here, on Monday.
Both the teams were tied 1-1 at the end of first half.
Milagres started the proceedings brightly but it was Bidesh XI who surprised their opponents by getting the opening goal in the 23rd minute through Faheez who on receiving a long ball from Gauresh outfoxed a couple of defenders and slotted the ball into the net to give his side the lead.
It did not take long for Milagres to get back level on terms through Mohammad Aga who on receiving a loose ball inside the penalty box drilled a low shot past the keeper into the goal to make it 1-1.
Milagres had two decent chances of consolidating their lead but Rohan Pednekar`s well struck shot was blocked by Bidesh keeper while Darryl rasping shot hit the woodwork and went out.
Bidesh keeper Rakesh Narvelkar was outstanding under the bar as he once again brought a superlative save in the fourth minute of the second half to keep out Rohan Pednekar’s shot from finding the back of the net.
Bidesh punished Milagres for their sloppy finishing by scoring two goals within a span of five minutes through a well taken free-kick by Harsad Gaonkar in the 72nd minute and Shubham Gawas in the 77th minute.
Milagres managed to pull a goal back through Valito Miranda’s firm header from a corner by Danish Ahmed to set up a thrilling finish to make it 3-2.
However any hopes of Milagres getting back into the match evaporated as Bidesh XI pumped in two more goals through Dyaneshwar and Vinayak to make it 5-2.
Bidesh XI was reduced to 10-men with the sending off Vijit Salgaokar for a second yellow booking.
