MAPUSA: Youth Sports Club of Colvale hammered Bastora United Sports and Cultural Club 6-0 on the opening day of the Goa Football Association’s Third Division Football league match (Bardez zone), at Duler Stadium, here, on Thursday. They led 2-0 at half time.
It was Bastora United that started off on an attacking note and everything went well for them as they gained a penalty in the 21st minute as Colvale’s Pranay Salgaokar handled the ball off a free-kick taken by Nikhil Karapurkar.
However, the young Colvale custodian Shelton Almeida gave his team a life line after denying Bastora United’s Joyel Martins’ spot-kick.
Then onwards, the tides changed as the spirits in the Colvale camp came to life and the deadlock was broken in the 38th minute. It was Pranay who made amends and provide Aidan Fernandes with a fine through ball and the skipper calmly finished past Bastora United keeper Oswin Menezes.
Colvale were all pumped up and increased their lead in the very next minute as Jovian Conceicao headed in a cross from the left flank by Derrick Rodrigues.
Post resumption, it was a one way traffic as Colvale added four more goals to their tally.
Stephen Martin joined the party after being put through by Trevor Paul in the 70th minute while Aidan made it 4-0 with a 25-yard strike in the 80th minute for his brace.
There was no stopping for the Colvale lads as Trevor finished neatly in the 88th minute off an assist by Aidan, who secured his hat-trick in the injury time.
Friends XI SC, Vaddem got the better of Bicholim Association of Football Fans (BAFF) 3-1 at Nachinola ground.
Dwayne Ticlo opened the scoring for Friends XI in the 42nd minute but Ritesh Harijan equalized for BAFF after changing ends. However, Friends XI regrouped and scored the second goal through Melwyn Rodrigues while Lynn D’Souza sealed three points in the 72nd minute.
At Dr Gustavo Monteiro ground, Candolim, Nerul Sports Club grounded Sangolda Lightning Club 4-1.
Bikraj, Avinash, Paul and Anish scored for the winners while Shalom reduced the margin for Sangolda Lightning Club.
In another match, Vailankanni Sports Club, Morjim edged past Chapora Yuvak Sangh 4-3.
Clyde Fernandes scored a fine brace while Viraj Parab and Ashvek Lobo added a goal each for Vailankanni SC. Vasant Gainkar, Vishu Parab and Maxwell D’Souza scored a goal each for Chapora YS.
