BITS Pilani FC thump Mormugao UCSC; Young Boys Tonca, Ronit SC prevail

PANJIM: Hat-tricks by Akhilesh Joshi and Aditya Gurjar helped BITS Pilani FC defeat Mormugao United Cultural & Sports Club 7-0 in a Round 5 match of the GFA Second Division Football League played at the Bits Pilani ground, Sancoale.

BITS were leading 3-0 at half time. Aryan Trivedi put Bits ahead in the 25th minute off a pass from Ashawat. They consolidated the lead with two quick goals by Akhilesh Joshi before half time.

In the second half Mormugao came into the match with some good moves by Cristo but Tanmay was unbeatable under the Bits bar.

BITS held sway after the 58th minute and scored 4 goals through Akhilesh Joshi (1) while Aditya Gurjar notched the other three goals including a penalty to give victory to BITS Pilani.

BITS Pilani FC will now clash with UYC Bogmalo in a crucial Round 2 match which  will decide the second position of the Group.

In another match at Agassaim ground, Young Boys of Tonca edged past Shree Nagesh Maharudra SCC with a solitary goal win.

Shubham Shirodkar scored the only goal of the game in the 24th minute.

At Taleigao ground, Ronit Sports Club defeated Aivao YC 4-0. Ronit led 1-0 at the break with Sagar Faterpekar scoring in the 33rd minute.

In the second half, Ronit SC scored three more goals through Antonio D’Costa, Satish Kankonkar and Bhupesh Kakonkar to take the final tally to 4-0.

In Salcete Zone, Nuvem Sports Club registered a 2-1 win over SWC Zaino at Ambelim ground.

Denikson Dias scored a brace for the winners while Lawren Fernandes pulled a goal back for the losing side.

In another match, Mandopa SC played out a 1-1 draw against St Anthony Assolda at Navelim ground.

Nevin Pereira put Mandopa SC ahead in the game in the 19th minute but Richard D’Sa made it all-square for St Anthony SC Assolda.

Mandopa SC finished the league campaign with 15 points and Nuvem SC finished second with 13 points and both the teams qualified for the play offs.
