Blink emerge victorious

MAPUSA: Blink emerged champions after defeating Warriors – Navelim 2-1 via tie- breaker in the 1st All Goa Women Football tournament, organised by Associasao Academica de Majorda, Utorda-Calata, recently.

Both the teams played all out to be the champion, however during the normal time the teams were level at 0-0 goals draw, with both the team players making attack and counter attack to find the net. 

The keepers of both the teams showed good reflexes and kept at bay the tries made by Janice Gomez and Reema Noronha. Valaina Fernandes of Warriors made various attempts to beat the rival goalkeeper, but all her efforts went into vain with Astrid Pereura being a hard nut to crack.

As the result was 0-0, to decide the champion or winners the tie breaker system was adopted, whereby Blink were superior and found the net through Astrid PereIra and Reema Noronha. Only Nisha Oli found the net for the runners-up, while Valaina Fernandes and Janice Gomes spot-kicks were saved by opponent goalkeeper Astrid Pereira.

The chief guest for the final was Vania Baptista, ZP member Colva constituency and the Guest of Honour was Sam Gonsalves, Sarpanch Village Panchayat Majorda, while Memento Vaz , Attorney Confra de Majorda, was special invitee through whose hands the Trophies and Cash prize was distributed to winners and runners up. Also present was Nelly Rodrigues, Ex ZP Chairperson south and Anjulo P Fernandes , sports secretary.
