PANJIM: Some of the top ranked National table tennis players along with former Olympians and internationals will be seen in action during the 32nd Petroleum Sports Promotion Board’s inter-unit table tennis tournament conducted by Bharat Petroleum at SAG complex, Campal from January 17-21.

Seven-times national champ Poulami Ghatak of BP will be star attraction in women’s, while in men’s, it will be BP’s Soumyajit Ghosh also of London Olympics Game fame, stated Devendra Joshi, manager corporate at a press briefing at Mira Mar, Wednesday. Poulami stated that she was eager to play in Goa since she had last played in 1997 at the junior international event.
The five-day event, comprising team championships for men and women, individual championships and veterans above 45, has attracted participation from eight member corporates – ONGC, OIL, IOC, EIL, GAIL, HPCL, IOC (AOD) and hosts BPCL.
The event is comparable to any other open national, since many top ranked international and national players employed by different petroleum sector boards like Soumyajit Ghosh, Achanta Sharath Kamal (IOC), Poulami (BP), Neha Aggarwal (BP), Mouma Das (OIL), Ankita Das and national champions Soumyadeep Roy (IOC), Subhajit Saha (OIL), K Shamini (IOC) and reigning national champ A Amal Raj among others will be taking part, according to Devendra.
The tournament will have a participation of about 100 players and officials, declared Sunil Limaye, manager corporate.
