BPS Club, Margao emerged champions in Angleys Cup Table Tennis
Team Championship event organised by Panjim Gymkhana at Gymkhana Premises, here on Tuesday.
BPS registered a convincing 3-0 win over last year’s champions Panjim Table Tennis Club to emerge triumphant.
Agnelo Naik gave BPS a dream start defeating former state champion Ajit Ghantker 11-9, 6-11, 11-8, 11-7. Goa’s top paddler Diljeet Velingker made it 2-0 for BPS with a comfortable 11-7, 12-10, 11-7 win over Goa’s stalwart Noel Noronha.
The third tie was a pulsating edge-of-the seat contest with fortunes fluctuating every minute. Amit Naik of BPS lost the first two sets 8-11, 9-11 but came back strongly to win the next three 11-7, 11-9, 11-7 to clinch the championship for BPS.
Dr Ajit Nagarshekar was the chief guest and distributed the prizes in the presence of Kishore Angley, Prashant Kakode, Sanjay Pednekar. The Tournament was conducted by Ajit Ghantker.
Yesterday, Panjim Table Tennis Club moved into the finals as they prevailed over BPS B 3-1.
Tito Diniz gave BPS B a dream start with a shock 3-0 win over Ajit Ghantker. In the second rubber, Tejas Shevde of BPS B lost to Noel Noronha 3-2.
Wilber Fernandes gave Panjim TT Club a decisive 2-1 lead with a hard fought 3-2 win over Akhil Shirwaiker in the third rubber in another pulsating contest.
In the first reverse singles Ajit Ghantker used all his guile and experience to score a comfortable 3-0 straight sets win over Tejas Shevde.
In the other semi-finals, it was a stroll in the park for BPS. They featured Goa’s top two paddlers Diljeet Velingker and Agnelo Naik and stormed into the finals with a thumping 3-0 win over Remy Fans.
