PANJIM: Goa’s legendary goalkeeper, Brahmanand Shankwalkar, commemorated his 70th birthday with a special celebration, highlighted by the release of a documentary on his illustrious career. Titled ‘Famously Found @15,’ the documentary was crafted by Savio de Noronha as part of a series by Doordarshan, shedding light on the lives of prominent Goans.
During the event, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant lauded the documentary and praised the Goan icon for earning prestigious national awards through his dedicated efforts. The Chief Minster acknowledged Shankwalkar’s remarkable 25-year journey, playing for clubs such as Panvel Club, Salgaocar Club, Churchill Brothers and Anderson Marine.
He emphasised the goalkeeper’s commitment as an inspiration to young Goans and extended warm wishes on his birthday, expressing hope for many more to come. CM Sawant applauded Doordarshan for producing the documentary and anticipated the channel discovering more authentic Goan heroes, serving as inspiration for all.
In response to a query by the O Heraldo regarding his feelings about the documentary, Brahmanand expressed gratitude. He shared his pleasure in witnessing Savio’s hard work on the film and his brother’s diligence in preserving documents from his playing days in Calcutta, Mumbai, and beyond.
Shankwalkar attributed his success to the familial bonds he formed with teammates, pitch staff, and higher-ups. He emphasised that the love and affection he received played a pivotal role in his personal growth. Despite receiving the Padma Shri award, he remained unchanged and believed in accepting whatever life presented. Shankwalkar acknowledged the documentary’s significance in unveiling previously unknown aspects of his life to the public.
