MUMBAI: FC Goa, the eponymously Indian Super League (ISL) franchise from the coastal state, may have had Robert Pires as their marquee player in the inaugural edition of the tournament, but the tides of change may have already shifted stance on the club with respect to the club retaining him in the following season.
If sources are to be believed, Lucimar Ferreira da Silva, also known as Lucio, could herald the marquee slot for the club in the second edition of the tournament. It is believed Zico is very keen on the veteran defender, who is currently plying his trade for the Brazilian club Palmeiras. Revelations also claim that Zico made it imperative for his marquee to contribute immensely to his team and did not want someone who is “not in shape and are in no ca
pacity to be on a pitch in a game for more than 10 minutes.“
Informers are confident Lucio, who was picked from a superfluity of players even including Argentine legend Juan Manuel Riquelme, is very enthusiastic to play for the Brazilain coached side.
The 2002 World Cup winner has made 21 appearances for his side this season and the stool pigeon indicated that Lucio had no intention of letting an opportunity to play for Zico slip.
Lucio began his career at Internacional in Brazil, where after he was bought by German club Bayer Leverkusen in 2000. After cementing his reputation at the club, he moved to fellow Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in 2004. He won three Bundesliga titles with the Bavarians before capering over the Alps to Italy, where he joined Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan.
At the Nerazzuri, he picked up a Scudetto, two Coppa Italias, one Super Coppa and the Club World Cup. The highlight of his time at Inter Milan would be the Champions League triumph over his former club, Bayern.
If he joins the Blues of Goa, the redoubtable talent will form a solid relationship with Gregory Arnolin, thus easing the fans’ defensive worries.
