MAPUSA: Salgaocar Football Club got the better of Corps of Signals 3-1 in the GFA’s Goa Pro League match played at Duler stadium, on Monday.
Salgaocar FC led 1-0 at the break as Brian Mascarenhas broke the deadlock in the 41st minute.
Salgaocar FC dominated major part of the proceedings, keeping their rivals pinned in their own backyard. Had it not been for Signals keeper Niyas Mon brilliant performance under the horizontal bar, the score-line would be much more embarrassing for them.
In the 6th minute, skipper Gilbert Oliviera sent a pinpoint cross to U20 Liston Colaco, who was a wee bit late in getting his feet to the ball.
Signals’ keeper Niyas did exceedingly well to push away Souvik Das blistering shot from outside the danger zone and then denied Brian Mascarenhas, Souvik Das and Aslon Oliviera from scoring.
However, he was finally beaten in the 41st minute, when Brian Mascarenha’s 35-yard freekick crashed into the Signals nets,1-0.
Salgaocar should have netted their second goal in the 44th minute, however Keita Boubacar failed to guide in Brian’s low cross.
Corps looked to be a different unit on crossing over, coming up with several threatening moves.
In the 62nd minute, Corps were awarded a direct freekick as Mackroy Peixoto was found guilty by the referee for handling the ball. Lalramasanga made no mistake to level terms when he curled in a 30-yard freekick, to the far corner of the Salgaocar goal, 1-1.
However their joy was short-lived as the Green Brigade wasted no time and took the lead when Brian scored his brace, giving finishing touches to Souvik Das spadework, 2-1.
Minutes later Corps keeper Niyas Mon came with a fine save to thwart Gilbert Oliviera from scoring.
In the 73rd minute of play Salgaocar made the issue safe for themselves when Brian Mascarenhas set the ball on platter to Aslon Oliviera, who made it 3-1.
