NAGOA: CAC Cansaulim defeated Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda 1-0 to clinch the Pax of Nagoa football trophy football tournament organised by PAX of Nagoa SC, played at Nagoa panchayat ground, Verna, on Tuesday.
Don Bosco striker Necil Pinto had the first chance of the match but the latter’s shot flew over the Cansaulim cross bar in the second minute. At the other end, Cansaulim through striker Dexter Fernandes’ shot failed to pop up into the Fatorda net in the eight minute. Cansualim striker Dominic Soares missed two great sitters from the box of Fatorda in the 24th and 26th minute.
Minutes later, a sudden move by Fatorda’s Veliton D’Souza connected a well measured ball to Hanslum Furtado but the latter failed to fire into Cansaulim net in the 32nd minute. Substitute Francis Andrade’s arrow bond shot hit the Cansaulim post in the 56th minute.
A counter attack by Cansaulim’s Dexter was foiled by the Fatorda defender. Ashley Soares netted the match winner with a volley to open the account for Cansaulim in the 64th minute. Just one minute left for the final whistle, Cansaulim’s Cansio Soares’ curler hit Fatorda post.
Ashley Soares of CAC Cansaulim was adjudged the Man-of-the-Match.
The winners were awarded Rs. 40,000 while the runners-up received Rs.30,000 plus trophies. Wilfred D’Sa MLA of Nuvem constituency was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up in the presence of Alexio D’Costa, Ravi Cabral, Anthony Rodrigues other dignitaries and club officials.
