PANJIM: Caculo Goans and Chowgule Warriors won their respective matches, in Goa Professional League T20 cricket tournament organized by Goa Cricket Association (GCA), at GCA Academy ground, on Thursday.
In the first match, Sunny Patel’s blazing 71 runs and Anant Tamvekar’s four wickets made the difference as Caculo Goans thumped Sarvodaya Royals by 40 runs.
Caculo Goans won the toss and elected to bat first, posting 151/7 in 20 overs. They started off disastrously with openers Salman Ahmed lbw by Ankit Kumar for a duck and Swapnil Asnodkar followed the same fate as he was lbw by the same bowler for nine runs as the scoreboard read 2/15. Rajat Seth (8) was caught by Saurabh Bandekar off the bowling of Amulya Pandrekar.
Rohit Asnodkar went for only one run as Sarvodaya continued to pressurize.
However, Samar Dubashi (29) provided stability in the middle order and Sunny Patel scored a fine 71 runs before being run out by Saurabh as they managed 151/7.
In reply, Sarvodaya Royals only managed 111/8 with Anant picking up four wickets. Sunny was adjudged man-of-the-match.
In the second match, Chowgule Warriors kept their cool to secure a three wicket victory over Salgaocar SC.
Salgaocar SC won the toss and elected to bat first. They posted 150/5 in 20 overs with opener Pramod Chandela scoring 64 runs. Keenan Vaz remained 38 not out while Sufiyan Alam contributed a vital 21.
In reply, Chowgule Warriors maintained a consistent run rate and at a point needed two runs from the final ball. Opener Suraj Dongre scored a brilliant 51 of 54 balls. Surendra Dahiya continued to attack and top scored with 64 runs.
