Calangute Assn down Guardian Angel

MAPUSA: Calangute Association SC started their campaign of the CAM Goa Professional League on winning note as they registered a well deserved 3-1 win over Guardian Angel SC, at Duler stadium, here, on Sunday.

Calangute Association scored one of the fastest goals in the ongoing GPL match where in the 40th second Nigel Silveira managed to beat the offside trap off a floater from his skipper Saeesh Halarnkar and coolly lobbed the ball into the goal over the onrushing Angel’s keeper Bisu Jana to give his side the lead.

In the 15th minute, the Beachside lads should have doubled the lead but their new foreign signing from Camerron- Junior Carret having snatched the ball from the defender moved upfront but having only Angel’s keeper at his mercy to the dismay of his teammates and supporters shot over the cross bar.

Minutes later, a well cross by Junior Carret was connected with a fine volley by Nigel Silveira which travelled wide.

Angel’s too had their chances but Rosario Mendes’ long range was collected by Calangute’s keeper Presley Mascarenhas.

Five minutes before the breather a glorious chance was squandered by Angel’s Valerian Hilario for the equaliser when his placement went just past the goal post after Saivish Singh had done the spadework.

On crossing ends, Calangute’s keeper Presley Mascarenhas brought two out of the blue saves in the 57th and 60th minutes to pair skipper Gilbert Oliveira’s free kick and minutes later blocked Peter Carvalho’s grounder.

The Beachside colts doubled their lead in the 67th minute when substitute Dominic Fernandes getting hold off a through pass from Moses D’Sa drove a scorching grounder which hit the far goal post and entered the goal to make it 2-0.

In the 80th minute, Calangute further increased their lead with skipper Saeesh Halarnkar getting hold off a pass from Pandurang Gauns drilled a low grounder which sent past keeper Bisu Jana to make it 3-0.

After missing numerous scoring opportunities, finally in the 85th minute Angel’s Gilbert Oliveira scored from the penalty spot after Calangute’s Joywin Carneiro tackled substitute Brivon Dias inside the penalty box to make it 3-1.

Calangute’s  Moises D’Sa received the man of the match award from Uday Lingudkar GFA’s Executive Committee member.
