Calangute Assn seniors -Jerry, Marcelino hope to see the club lift GPL crown

MAPUSA: Jerry D’Souza and Marcelino Fernandes have numerous similarities where they can be compared to a coin. If one is a head the other is a tail.
Both are hailing from the beautiful and scenic village of Calangute where they run their own restaurants.
Jerry is senior to Marcelino and is in football field since 1976. He played for the village team for number of years and now is a regular executive member of Calangute Association holding various positions in the prestigious club.
During his tenure as Sports Secretary his joy had no bounds when his dreams turned into reality seeing Calangute Association being elevated to the Goa Professional League.
A couple of years back, due to illness he had one of his feet amputated. But that did not stop Jerry’s love for football and for his home team Calangute Association. He is present for each and every game of Calangute, be it inter-village or Goa Professional league. Seated in the spectator’s gallery he is seen shouting instructions to the players on the field.
Speaking to Jerry, he said “Football is in my blood and as long as I live my passion for sport will stay with me.”
Marcelino played Professional football for Dempo Engineering and Vasco Sports Club where finally he ended playing for his home team Calangute Association and now for almost last four terms is the executive member of Calangute Association and currently the Sports Secretary after Jerry gave way due to his illness. He is a very lovable person but at times losses his cool.
He too like Jerry has sacrificed his family life and business for the love of football.
Both have just one dream and that is to see Calangute Association being crowned champions of GPL.
The way Calangute Association are performing in this ongoing league with just one defeat from eight matches and sitting third in the league table with 15 points their dreams to be a reality is close.
