MAPUSA: Calangute Association Sports Club were held to a goalless draw by Sesa Football Academy in the Goa Professional League played at Duler stadium, here, on Tuesday.
Sesa FA started earnestly after their marvelous display against Sporting Clube de Goa with whom they drew in the last league match while Calangute Association who had stunned Dempo SC in their last encounter were A mere shadow till the last five minutes before the breather.
In the 14th minute, a curling cross by Myron Borges was brilliantly parried by Calangute’s keeper Paramveer Singh which travelled to Rizbon who ballooned the ball wide.
After the half an hour mark, Cajetan Fernandes found Myron Borges who broke the offside trap but saw his lob over the onrushing keeper Paramveer travel out.
Minutes later, Cajetan Fernandes who superbly controlled the midfield for Sesa Academy latched a 25-yard right footer which zoomed over the horizontal bar.
The best chance for the Sesa lads came in the 40th minute when Cajetan found Myron Borges on the right flank who sent a through pass to Dominic Soares inside the penalty box who was timely thwarted by keeper Paramveer and the ball rolled to Rizbon who failed to find the net.
A rasping 25-yard strike by Dominic Fernandes saw Sesa keeper Sapam Nongpoknganba Singh’s dive and push the ball for a corner.
In the 45th minute, Calangute were awarded a free-kick when Dominic Soares fouled Kouame Junior outside the penalty box.
A well executed free-kick by Nickson Castanha was once again superbly pushed for a corner by keeper Sapam Singh.
On resumption of play, in the very sixth minute Calangute’s Siddhant should have done better to finish a low cross from Chaitan Dabholkar from just outside the 6-yard box.
At the other end, Sesa came close in opening their account in the 76th minute when a fierce shot by substitute Faheez Mohammad was parried by keeper Parmaveer and the ball travelled to substitute Stephen Colaco whose strike was once again blocked by Paramveer from close quarters.
