MARGAO: Calangute Association grounded Chandor Club 2-0 to enter the semi-finals of the 44th Custodio memorial football tournament organized by Raia Sporting Club, at panchayat ground, Raia, on Friday.
Calangute Association started attackingl and could have taken the lead in the fourth minute but Samir Chodankar’s shot hit the goal post of Chandor SC and went out of play after an assist from Pedro Gonsalves.
There after, Chandor SC had a go through Sunny Fernandes but the latter’s shot was saved by the custodian of Calangute Association.
Calangute Association came up with attacking moves and surged ahead in the 21st minute as Aniket Maderekar’s rasping grounder crushed into the nets of Chandor SC after an assist from Deepak Govekar.
At the other end, Chandor SC were trying hard to bounce back into the match but Ivon Pinto’s half volley did not trouble the rival goalkeeper.
Calangute Association dominated the second session and in the 38th minute, Joel D’Souza nodded in off an assist by Sharmand Kargaonkar.
