Calangute Association prevailed over Rossman Cruz Nagoa-Verna, 7-6 via tie-breaker after the teams were involved in a 2-all draw

CALANGUTE: Calangute Association prevailed over Rossman Cruz Nagoa-Verna, 7-6 via tie-breaker after the teams were involved in a 2-all draw in the Goviea Super Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Candolim Sports Club, at Dr. Gustavo Monteiro Stadium, Candolim, Tuesday.

Calangute started with a bang and forged ahead in the very first minute of play through Francis Fernandes’ dribbling past a couple of defenders.

Down by a goal, Nagoa-Verna fought back and restored parity in the 20th minute through Nesta Moniz.

Changing over, Calangute had an opportunity to regain the lead in the 40th minute but Myron Arauzo shot wide from close distance. Nagoa-Verna came close to scoring in the 45th minute but Calangute keeper Agnelo affected a brilliant save off Wilson’s free kick.

Joaquim Gonsalves regained the lead for Calangute off Domnic Fernandes in the 53rd minute. Nagoa-Verna levelled the score as the ball slipped off keeper’s hand with Samson Menezes making the best of the opportunity to score with few minutes remaining.

With the scores even, the winners were decided on penalties. Calangute held their nerves to romp home winners 5-4.  Rajkumar Naik, Francis Fernandes, Myron Arauzo, Domnic Fernandes and Ashley Lobo found the mark for Calangute while Nigel Rego, Samson Menezes, Wilson Fernandes and Nesta Moniz were on target for Nagoa-Verna.
