PER-SERAULIM: Calangute Veterans pipped Curtorim Veterans 4-2 via the tie-breaker to clinch the Colva Veterans Trophy, at Mabai ground, Per-Seraulim, recently.
During the normal time both the teams were locked in a goalless draw.
In the 20th minute Arjuna awardee, Bruno Coutinho missed a sitter as his free-kick was well saved by Curtorim keeper Glorio D’Mello.
Curtorim’s Veterans Anthony Matos brilliantly defended the goal line and saved Alexander Fernandes goal bound shot.
Curtorim Veterans Seby Vaz played a stellar role while he was well marshalled by Mohan Parab of Calangute Veterans.
In the ensuing tie-breaker Calangute scored through Ramesh Palkar, Remy Colaco, Alexander Fernandes, Allwyn Fernandes while only James Dcosta and Seby Faleiro found the net for Curtorim Veterans.
Calangute Veterans were awarded a trophy and Rs 30,000 while Curtorim Veterans had to be content with Rs 25,000 and trophy.
Chief guest for the day was former tourism minister Micky Pacheo.
Guest’s of honour were Remy Fernandes, Sarpanch of Benaulim, Leslie Dourado, Sarpanch of Seraulim, Rajiv Sharma, Blaizy Fernandes, Dy. Sarpanch of Colva, Panches of Colva and Seraulim.
Supt. of Customs, Geovanni Santimano was also present.
Earlier the welcome speech was delivered by Connie Silva while Menino Fernandes, Sarpanch of Colva introduced the dignitries to the players. The function was compered by Franky Fernandes.
