RAIA: Canacona Sports and Cultural Club clinched a 2-1 victory over Navelim Sporting Club in a thrilling 1st VJT Cup Football match at Chinchinim ground, on Monday.
The first half was a stalemate with both teams struggling to create chances. The second half saw more of action and drama as Canacona broke the deadlock in the 40th minute through Austin Diniz who nscored a brilliant goal after a swift counter-attack.
Twelve minutes later, Alvito Miranda doubled the lead for Canacona with a fine finish from inside the box. Navelim did not give up and pulled one back in the 53rd minute through Sadroy Costa, who slotted home a rebound.
The final minutes were tense as Navelim pressed for the equalizer, but Canacona held on to their slender lead and managed to move ahead.
The Man-of-the Match award went to Joyson Coutinho of Navelim for his impressive performance. He received a gift from chief guest Costancio Pereira.
