Canacona SCC emerge Holy Cross football champions

RAIA: Canacona SCC emerged victorious in a nail-biting final against St Anthony SC, Marna-Siolim, 5-3 via tie-breaker to clinch the 26th Holy Cross inter-village football tournament played at Vodlemoll ground, Cacora, on Saturday. 

The encounter showcased an intense display of skills and determination from both sides. In the 20th minute, the deadlock was broken, courtesy a power full strike from Sherwin Lobo propelling St Anthony SC to take lead. 

Despite relentless efforts from Canacona SCC, the first half concluded with the scoreline reading 1-0 in favour of St Anthony SC.

As the second half commenced, Canacona SCC surged forward with renewed attacking vigour determined to level the score. 

Despite facing formidable resistance from the St Anthony SC defence, Canacona SCC persisted with their offensive onslaught. 

In a dramatic turn of events, Canacona SCC finally found the much-needed equaliser in the dying moments of the match, courtesy a clinical finish from Velvino Fernandes, bringing the score to 1-1 at the end of regulation time. The fate of the final was decided through a tense tie-breaker. Canacona SCC showcased nerves of steel as Yamnursab, Pralhad, Mehbub and Chaitan delivered flawless performances, converting their penalties with precision. Meanwhile, Sahil and Pushparaj managed to find the net for St Anthony SC. The teams were honoured with prizes presented by dignitaries including Pradip Naik, chairperson of CCMC, councillors of CCMC, Rohan Dessai, Ali and Johncy Fernandes, president of Guardian Angel Sports Club.
