MAPUSA: Canacona Warriors won the Desserts-n-More Sarsangan Tennis Ball Cricket Championships beating Mapusa Dream Crushers by13 runs in the finals at Estilo ground, Bodgini Mapusa.
Electing to bat first, Canacona Warriors scored 64/2 in 5 overs with useful contribution from Siddesh Prabhu Alvenkar 26*, Rauji Kakodkar 24 and captain Amey Rajadhyax 12. Only Mahesh Churi who took 1-14 was the successful bowler for Mapusa Dream Crushers.
In reply, Mapusa Dream Crushers could make only 51/7 in 5 overs with Pankaj Naik 16 and Venktesh Prabhu Verlekar 13 reaching double figures.
For Canacona Warriors, only captain Amey Rajadhyax was the successful bowler taking 2-5 while five Mapusa batsman made ‘harakiri’ getting run out whole going for non-existent runs. Rauji Kakodkar was declared the man-of-the finals for having changed the complexion of the match with three huge sixes in his 22.
Earlier, Canacona Warriors reached the finals beating Cuncolim Strikers by 31 runs.
Amey Rajadhyax was declared man-of the match for his standout performance with 28 runs and also picking one wicket. Earlier in the day, the Canacona Warriors won all their three league match.
Cuncolim Strikers made it to the semi-finals winning. Deval Karmali, Siddesh Prabhu Alvenkar (twice), Ashay Ambe, Kauntey Shenvi and Arnav Phaldesai won the man-of-the match awards.
