CAMORLIM: Candolim Veterans defeated Sun Moon Veterans Chandor 1-0 to move into the semi- finals of the 5th All-Goa veterans soccer tournament in memory of late Jose Cardozo, Culsabhat-Camorlim, organised by Boys of Camorlim, at Camorlim ground, on Tuesday.
Alfred Fernandes and Robert Fernandes, combined well for Candolim Veterans while Ivon Fernandes played well for Sun Moon.
A set piece worked out by Alfred Fernandes and Robert Fernandes for Candolim was blocked by the rival defender in the 4th minute.
Alfred Fernandes’ high voltage shot in the 9th minute hit the Sun Moon cross piece and went out of play.
Sun Moon through Ivon Fernandes’ header could have opened the account if it was not for the mesmerising save by Candolim goalkeeper in the 11th minute.
The 18th minute saw Rafiq Bepari roll the ball to Patrick Fernandes’ who made a long ranger strike for Candolim Veterans however the ball ballooned over.
And this time the duo of Alfred and Robert worked well after their foxy trick worked out for Candolim Veterans as Alfred scored the goal with a power packed shot in the 55th minute after Robert Fernandes sent him a defence splitting pass.
