Candolim SC beat CDJ Ribandar to enter quarters

GOA VELHA: Candolim Sports Club defeated CDJ Ribandar 2-0 to move into the quarter-finals of the 13th London Trophy, organised by Goa Velha Sports Club at Goa Velha Sports Club ground, on Thursday.
CDJ Ribandar began the match in right earnest and were the first to attack the Candolim goal when Deeshank Kunkalikar sent a teasing ball in the Candolim box but was easily punched away by the Candolim SC keeper Chandan Redkar. In the sixth minute, Candolim SC surged ahead through the boots of Anand Madgaonkar who beat the Ribandar keeper Elesh Shirvoikar with a deft placement off a Canute D’Souza pass. 
In the 18th minute, Nehal Naik brilliant solo effort was beautifully kept out by a diving Ribandar keeper Elesh Shirvoikar. 
At the half-hour mark, Anand Madgaonkar completed his brace as he lobbed the ball over the onrushing Ribandar keeper Elesh Shirvoikar’s to make it 2-0 in favour of Candolim SC. At half time, Candolim SC led 2-0.
In the second half, CDJ Ribandar came out with renewed vigour. In one such move, Jayesh Kadam shot tamely into the Candolim SC keeper Chandan Redkar’s hands after being put through by Sandesh Palyekar in the 53rd minute.  
At the hour mark, Sachin Shirvoikar after doing the spade work laid the ball to Casmiro Consessao who however was dispossessed timely by the Candolim SC defender Akash Banavalikar.
Aniket Agarwadekar, Aniket Naik, Siddhant Kalangutkar of Candolim SC and Krishnanath Shirodkar of CDJ Ribandar were cautioned by the match referee Rohidas Bhomkar.
