CALANGUTE: Candolim Sports Club scored a hard fought victory over PVC Association, Parra 2-1 to move into quarter-finals of Mc Dowell’s No.1 Yaari Premier Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Calangute Association, at Calangute Association ground, Calangute, on Tuesday.
PVC Parra’s Sankesh’ try was saved by the Candolim SC Keeper. Candolim SC Keeper was again in action saving another shot from Rowell Pinto.
Canute and Nehal failed to find the net from close for Candolim SC. Candolim SC however took the lead in the 24th minute of play with Nikhil Naik beating the PVC Parra Keeper after receiving a long ball from deep off a free kick.
Stung by reverse, PVC Parra mounted pressure on Candolim SC goal and nearly came close to scoring but Atish messed it up in front of the goal.
Change of ends saw PVC Parra were undone by another strike in the very first minute of play with Suraj Kauthankar finding the net off Gauresh.
Trailing by two goals, PVC Parra did not give up and kept attacking the rival citadel and reduced the margin in the 38th minute of play with Rowell Pinto finding the net with goal-keeper out of his position.
Parra kept the momentum going and came close to drawing level on couple of occasions but their forwards failed to find the net.
Sankesh’s try hit the post and went out of play while Rowell and Joaquim tries missed the mark narrowly.
PVC Parra almost drew level with few minutes remaining for the final whistle but his try hit the cross bar and rebound into play much to the disappointment of his colleagues and fans.
Candolim SC also had goal opportunities to take the game away from Parra but their forwards failed to score.
Rowell Romeo Pinto of PVC, Parra was adjudged the man-of-the-match.
