RAIA: Candolim Sports Club defeated Guardian Angel SC by a solitary goal to emerge champions in the 29th Mandopa Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Mandopa Sports Club, at Mandopa ground, Navelim, on Saturday.
Valerian Hilario and Myron Mendes missed scoring opportunities for Guardian Angel SC. Sanket Jotkar missed chances for Candolim SC in the first half.
The all-important goal of the match was scored in the second session by Sanket Jotkar. Candolim SC were richer by Rs 50,000 plus trophy while Guardian Angel SC had to be content with Rs 40,000 and trophy.
Avertano Furtado, former minister for fisheries and labour, was the chief guest and handed over the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Savitri Kavlekar, Fr Gabriel Coutinho, Anthony Pango (GFA Vice President), Anthony Fernandes and Andrew Ferraro, GFA Executive Members, other dignitaries and club officials.
