MAPUSA: Candolim Sports Club had to wait for the penalty shoot-out as they registered a 6-4 win to advance into the quarters of the 21st Vagator Soccer Cup organized by Vagator PYSC played at Ozran ground, here on Tuesday.
Candolim surged ahead in the 12th minute when Parra defender Sankesh Harmalkar handled the ball inside the penalty-box prompting referee Yuvraj Tari to point to the penalty spot. The resultant penalty was converted by Candolim’s Stanley D’Silva.
In the 34th minute Parra’s Rowell netted the equaliser with a rasping 30- yard shot.
On crossing over, Candolim once again took the lead in the 44th minute after Nikhil Naik combined well with Bhavesh Candolkar to make it 2-1.
In the 56th minute, Jose Fernandes netted the third goal for Candolim beating the onrushing Parra keeper with a neat placement to make it 3-1.
As the match progressed, Parra exerted tremendous pressure on the rival citadel and netted two goals to level terms with Vasanth Gadekar scoring with a stiff grounder and Saiesh Palyekar from outside the penalty box to make it 3-3.
In the penalty shoot-out, Aniket Agarwadekar, Nehal Naik and Frazer Fernandes were on target for Candolim while for PVC Parra only Rowel Pinto scored.
