MAPUSA: Candolim Veterans piped Vasco Veterans 1-0 in the finals to lift 2nd Babu Arolkar memorial All-Goa Veterans football cup organized by Bardez Veterans and sponsored by Dempo Sports Club at Duler Stadium, here, Saturday. There was no goal at half time.
Candolim broke the deadlock against the run of play as medio Santan Carvalho scored from 30-yards out which found the top right corner of the Vasco goal.
Chief guest and Arjuna awardee Brahmanand Shankhwalker recollected fond memories of late Babu Arolkar, the former Dempo SC player. Brahmanand then distributed the prizes in the presence of Lavinio Rebello, GFA’s vice-president (North) and Gajanand Kerkar, executive member and other dignitaries.
Candolim were awarded the winner’s trophy while Vasco took home the runner-up trophy. Individual prizes were awarded to Player of the tournament Elvis Pereira (Candolim), Best Midfielder Santan Carvalho (Candolim), Best Striker Alfred Fernandes (Vasco) and Best Goalkeeper Henry D’Souza (Candolim).
