MARGAO: Candolim Veterans rallied from behind to beat Panjim Veterans 5-2 via the tie-breaker to storm into the quarter-finals of All-Goa Joao Manuel and Joseph Fernandes memorial veterans football tournament organized by Sun Moon Stars Veterans, Chandor, at church ground, Chandor, Tuesday. Candolim Veterans were trailing 1-0 at the breather.
Panjim Veterans took the lead through Constancio Nunes.
Post resumption, Candolim Veterans put up a vast improved display and their forwards showed urgency and tested the rival goalkeeper with pot shots. Domnic Pereira, who was in thick action punished the rival goalkeeper with clinical finish to make it 1-1.
In the ensuing penalty shoot-out, Caetano Xavier, Domnic Pereira, Dundu Fernandes and Trevor Antao found the mark for Candolim Veterans while only Daniel Noronha was successful for Panjim Veterans.
Constancio Nunes of Panjim Veterans was adjudged man-of-the-match and received the award at the hands of Benny Mendes.
