PANJIM: Cardozo Brothers, Taleigao, defeated AHV Challengers, Bicholim, 21-20, 21-20, 19-21, 18-21, 15-14 to emerge champions at the Domingos Joao Fernandes memorial All-Goa 3-a-side volleyball tournament, organised by Star of Molloca, Merces.
The tournament saw participation from 24 teams. Earlier in the semi-finals, Cardozo Brothers accounted for Kulmaya Six while AHV Challengers put it across George Six.
The following individual prizes were awarded: Best lifter: Rudresh (AHV Challengers), best defender: Amlesh (Cardozo Bros), man-of-the-tournament: Nitin Sawant (Cardozo Bros), best disciplined team: Molloca A Merces.
Prior to the final, chief guest Fr Joseph Fernandes felicitated George Dias, a former volleyball player considered among the best that Goa has produced.
Hailing from Santa Cruz, George played for top teams like Crown Club, Romeo Six, Boys of Merces and Cajie Anthony, leading them to many triumphs across the state.
