Carmel College shine in 1st Inter-collegiate Women Raw Powerlifting Championship

MARGAO: Carmel College, Nuvem, won the team championship at the 1st State Inter-collegiate Raw Powerlifting Championship. Don Bosco College, Panjim were the first runners-up and Rosary College, Navelim took the 2nd runner-up spot.  The strongest woman title was awarded to Swati Sandip Naik from PES’s RSN College of Arts and Science, Farmagudi, Ponda.  

The championship was organised by the Department of Physical Education and Sports at VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce and Economics in Margao, Goa, ON September 4, at the College Multipurpose Hall. A total of 125 women participants from 22 different colleges took part in the Championship. The Chief Guest for the function was Vikram Verlekar, Chairman of the Sports Governing Council of VVM’s. The judges for the competition were Andrew Gomes, Govind Lotlikar, Tanuj Kinolkar,  Nehal Komarpant, Satish Mandrekar, Purnay Raikar, Ashish Shirodkar, Soham Mohite,  Viola Rodrigues, and Agnes Fernandes.

The event was coordinated by Dr Ajinkya Kudtarkar, the College Director of Physical Education and Sports, and Saurabh Raikar, an Instructor in Physical Education. The VVM management and Principal Prof  Prita D. Mallya were instrumental in supporting the event. The Sports Council of the college, headed by Sidhivinayak Hadpad, a student of TYBCA, along with 30 other Sports Council Members, made all the arrangements for the tournament.
