NAVELIM: Carmel Higher Secondary School, Nuvem edged past Rosary HSS Navelim 1-0 in the OORJA-CAPF’s Youth U-19 girls talent hunt tournament, organised by CISF West Sector, Mumbai and played at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Thursday.
Carmel’s striker Karishma Shirvolkar was outstanding for her team and scored the match winner for Carmel HSS.
The Navelim team enjoyed a good opening minutes and almost scored the team’s first goal through Aline Fernandes, but a timely interception from Dapina Costa helped Carmels to keep the score line level.
In the 10th minute, Carmels keeper was brought into action when she fisted away Somaaya Mukundan’s well executed free-kick.
Carmels missed two sitters in the 14th and 16th minute by Karishma as both her attempts were saved by the rival keeper.
Wilma Vaz’s move was foiled Carmel defender Daphina Costa in the 26th minute.
Carmel’s Lifa Gama shot was saved by Rosary HSS keeper Pooja Poojari in the 30th minute.
Anline Fernandes’ free-kick for Rosary which was sailing into Carmel net was divinely saved by Carmel keeper Swizel Carvalho in the 37th minute.
Karishma Shirvolkar striker of Carmel after dribbling couple of rival defenders shot from inside the rival box but missed the target by inches in the 40th minute.
In the 44th minute, Karishma shoot hit the inside of Rosary post and entered the nets off Dishna Kumar assist.
Carmels defenders Beverly Colaco, Daphina Costa, and Karen Costa sealed their back line to block the Rosary strikers entering in their territory till the end of the match to maintain the lead 1-0.
In another match played at Rosary ground, Navelim, St Xavier’s Mapusa thumped Fr Agnel, Pilar 8-0.
Sushmita Jadhav scored a hat-trick for the winners while Pradnya Majik, Abygale Almedia, Anushka Shah, Carol D’Souza and Flavina netted a goal each.
At Nagoa ground, St Alex Curtorim defeated Kendriya Vidyalaya 10-0.
In boys’ category, Fr Agnel, Pilar thumped Kendriya Vidyalaya 9-0 at Nagoa ground.
Elsewhere, Rosary HSS, Navelim defeated Salgaocar FC 4-3.
