MAPUSA: St Cruz Club of Cavelossim stunned Sesa Football Academy 2-1 in a round four match of Airtel Goa Pro League football at Duler Stadium, here, Wednesday. Cavelossim led 1-0 at the breather.
Cavelossim played impressively and made most of the opportunities that came their way. They surged ahead in the 18th minute through Inacio Colaco’s spot-kick but Sesa equalized through Chukwudi Chukwuma’s clinical finish in the second session. However, Sesa’s citadel came down when Cavelossim’s U-20 striker Prestly Colaco beautifully headed home the match-winner in the 60th minute.
Cavelossim registered their first victory in the league which takes them to five points while Sesa suffered their third defeat and are on one point.
Sesa fielded their second string side as Cavelossim took the advantage and started strongly with well orchestrated raids early on.
Cavelossim exerted pressure on Sesa’s edgy defence and surged ahead in the 18th minute through a penalty. Cavelossim medio Inacio Colaco sent a clever long ball to striker Adwin Lucas, who was brought down by Sesa defender Ganesh Thakur inside the danger zone as referee Chandrashekar Shirodkar pointed to the penalty spot and cautioned Ganesh. Off the resultant penalty, Inacio coolly slotted home past Sesa goalkeeper Thockchom Singh.
Spurred by the success, Cavelossim continued with confidence and passed the ball with ease. They came close to scoring their second but Marcus Fernandes’ stiff grounder missed the mark narrowly at the first quarter.
At the other end, Sesa were struggling to create any dangerous moves with the Cavelossim defence marking the rival strikers closely. Their best chance to equalize came in the 40th minute when Agnelo Colaco sent a dangerous cross from the right flank but onrushing Chukwudi Chukwuma could not connect on time.
In the next minute, Cavelossim created another scare as Adwin’s close ranger was blocked by goalkeeper Thockchom off an assist from Inacio.
Changing over, Sesa crawled their way back and equalized in the 49th minute as Chukwudi shot past Cavelossim custodian Jaison D’Mello with a deft placement off an intelligent pass from Ashley Araujo.
However, Cavelossim scored their second in the 59th minute when Marcus Fernandes stretched his muscle in the right flank and crossed to Prestly Colaco, who beautifully headed in past the rival custodian from a narrow angle.
Sesa went all-out but were unlucky as Dom Rocha’s effort kissed the horizontal in the 68th minute and then in the 75th minute Perryson should have done better rather then aiming the upright from close range with only the rival custodian at his mercy.
