RAIA: Sao Jose de Areal and Cuncolim Union played a 1-1 draw in a GFA First Division League match at Don Bosco Oratory ground, at Fatorda on Saturday.
Areal were the first to threaten the rival goal in the 4th minute as Shane Afonso latched on to a pass from Sandeep Chaudhry and let go a power-packed shot which was, however, saved by Cuncolim goalkeeper Earl Fernandes.
Two minutes later, Cuncolim Union retaliated and James Fernandes’ try was collected by Sunny Fernandes. Cuncolim maintained the tempo with Ryce Fernandes’ try going over the crossbar first and then James’ long ranger being pushed away to safety by goalkeeper Sunny.
Areal’s Raymand Fernandes missed two chances to score in the 45th and 46th minutes.
It was Areal’s Sandeep who netted the first goal with a placement in the 47th minute off Rayman. Areal got a penalty award but Muhammad Sahib Monsari’s kick was saved by Earl in the 51st minute. Soon after, Denil Rebello’s effort was saved by the Areal goalkeeper.
It was Maldono Rodrigues of Cuncolim Union who secured the equaliser in the 67th minute as his power-packed shot crushed into the Areal net.
At Navelim ground, in another match, Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim defeated Curtorim Gymkhana 2-1.
Hanslum Furtado opened the scoreline for Curtorim Gymkhana in the 53rd minute but the joy was shortlived as Charles Miranda equalised for Cavelossim in the 67th minute. It was Kanchan Keiro of Cavelossim who scored the match-winner in the 76th minute.
