MAPUSA: CDJ Ribandar managed to hold Albert Developers to a 1-1 draw in a GFA’s First Division League match at Guirim ground, on Tuesday.
In a frayed tempered match mostly due to inept supervision by the referees, the teams scored in the first session.
It was Bhavesh Gauns who put Albert Developers ahead with a smart header only to find Sachin Shirvoikar leveling terms for Ribandar scoring with a 25-yard strike.
On crossing over, the proceedings were restricted mostly to the midfield with the result both goalkeepers were hardly tested.
The match turned ugly with rough tackles, some being booked by referee Somshekar Kumbar while others were overlooked. This enraged Albert Developers manager Paulo, who tried to bring it
to the notice of Match Commissioner Gokuldas Nagvekar who obviously could do noting about it, except may be to report to GFA in his routine summary.
As play progressed, Ribandar’s Latesh Kunkolkar, who had already been given the yellow, unfairly charged Albert’s Under-20 Anuj Kuttikar, thus meriting the second yellow and its consequent red card. However, after much deliberations, referee Somshekar awarded a direct free-kick. Albert’s Venancio Gonsalves was not happy with the decision and at the instance of the assistant referee,Venancio was cautioned.
After the match, Albert Developers’ officials cautioned the referee, assistant referee and match commissioner about their unfair decisions.
The referee must be credited with very poor supervision, displaying lack of proper knowledge, understanding and application of the rules, perhaps due to lack of periodical refresher training.
At Salvador do Mundo ground, Dempo Jrs defeated Goa Police SC 5-0.
At Ella ground, Old Goa, Young Boys of Tonca (YBT) will be awarded a walkover as BITS, Pilani failed to report for the match.
