VAGATOR: Albert Developers, CDJ Ribandar defeated Augustius SC, Pomburpha 3-2 to storm into the semis of the 18th Vagator Soccer Cup, organized by Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club, at Ozran ground, here on Wednesday.
Both the sides started brightly wherein the 8th minute of play Sheikh Saliya of CDJ Ribandar sent in a long floater inside the Pomburpha danger zone only to see Savio Monteiro’s header go inches past the target.
At the other end, Saiesh Kavlekar set up Octavia Miranda, who on making his way past the Ribandar defenders shot straight into the waiting hands of the keeper.
At half-time the score was 0-0.
Crossing over, Augustius broke the deadlock in the 41st minute of play when Raju Padashi slotted home the ball from inside the 18-yard box, past the onrushing keeper, 1-0.
The Ribandar colts didn’t waste much time and netted in the equalizer through a powerful long range strike by Devendra Murgaonkar, 1-1.
Augustius pushed hard and once again took the lead in the 52nd minute of play when Pundalik Naik set the ball on platter to Mohamad Nadaf, who coolly tapped it home, 2-1.
Three minutes later Ribandar restored parity through the boots of Sandesh.
In the 58th minute of play Sandesh netted in his brace by giving finishing touches to Sheikh Salllya’s cross, to take his side into the semi-finals.
