Central Goods & Service Tax win exhibition match

PANJIM: Central Goods and Service Tax (CSGT), Goa defeated Goa Customs, 5-1, to win the exhibition football match organised by Goa Customs, at Don Bosco School ground, Panjim, to commemorate the International Customs Day, recently.

Both the teams played an excellent football in the 30-30 minutes’ encounter where in the first 15 minutes, the Goa Customs had an upper hand with excellent moves from Stanley Colaco, Arnold Cardozo, Charles Miranda and Wilfred Fernandes, where they came near scoring twice but were prevented by good defending by Sourabh Patil. 

On the other hand, Goa CGST scored the first goal when Frankie Mascarenhas received a pass from Harshad Gadekar of a counter move in the 20th minute. Again the CGST came near scoring but Jay Kumar missed an open chance. Goa Customs equalised and drew level in the 25th minute when Charles Miranda dribbled passed two defenders and the netted the goal. 

In the dying minutes of the first half, Ashrafali Makandar increased the score 2-1 for the CGST. 

In the second half, both the teams came with renewed vigour and it was in the 10th minute that CGST Captain Frankie Mascarenhas scored, giving no chance for Customs goalkeeper Ceasar Machado.

After the third goal by Goa CGST, the Customs team were demoralised and riding high with confidence. CGST defender Sourabh Patil scored a splendid goal, dribbling from center, to make the score, 4-1. 

Just two minutes before the final whistle, Frankie Mascarenhas scored a third goal to complete his hat-trick with the score being 5-1, in the favour of Goa CGST. 

Goa Customs Commissioner Navraj Goel and Goa CGST Commissioner Soundarajan were present for the exhibition match. 

Bruno Couthino, former India football team captain and Arjuna Awardee was the chief guest, who later gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up along with the guest of honour Juliet Fernandes, assistant commissioner of Customs. The match was compered by Superintendent of Customs Saisha Vishwasrao.

Frankie Mascarenhas was declared man-of-the-match.
