NAVELIM: Chandor Club defeated Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda 7-6 via sudden death to emerge as champions in the 41st Gold Silver Rolling trophy inter-village football tournament, at Rosary Church ground, Navelim, on Saturday.
Both the teams tied 1-1 at the regulation time.
Don Bosco Oratory had an opportunity at the start of the match, but Hanslum Furtado missed to score from close range. Maxwell Furtado gave lead to DBO in the 15th minute off a pass from Rishabh Karaporkar. Alreach Peixoto and Victorinho Fernandes missed scoring chances in the first session for Chandor SC.
In the second session, Chandor applied more pressure and earned a penalty in the 66th minute which was converted by Rizbon Fernandes.
In the tie-breaker, Victorino Fernandes, Brivon Dias, Rizbon Fernandes, Valentino Carvalho, Brivon Dias, Louie Noronha and Jerry Vaz netted for Chandor SC while Maxwell Furtado, Francis Andrade, Hanslum Furtado, Alfred Noronha and Cliff Barretto found the net for DBO Fatorda.
The individual prizes awarded are as follows:
Best defender of the final: Joaquim Carvalho (Chandor club)
Best half of final: Cliff Barretto (Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda).
Luizinho Faleiro MP of Rajya Saba was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners up in the presence of Anthony Pango, Interim president of GFA, Edwin (Cipru) Cardozo ZP member, Navelim, George Barretto, social worker and other dignitaries.
