Chandor Club clinch Seaman’s trophy

CHANDOR:  Chandor Club downed Curtorim Gymkhana 3-1 to clinch the 47th Chandor Seaman’s Rolling Trophy football tournament, at Chandor ground.

Curtorim Gymkhana started inright earnest and opened the scoring in the seventh minute through James Fernandes who headed the ball past the Chandor Club goalkeeper. 

Though Chandor Club fought hard, the equaliser eluded them till the end of the first half. In the second half, Chandor Club turned the tables against Curtorim Gymkhana with a scintillating display of accurate passes. Valentino Carvalho scored two quick goals in the 41st and 53rd minutes, putting Chandor Club ahead. Curtorim Gymkhana nearly equalised in the 50th minute when Veron Fernandes’ rasping volley hit the crossbar. Six minutes from close, Victorino Fernandes rounded off the tally with a solo effort.

President of Chandor Club Felix Furtado felicitated Estefanio Dias and Vincy Antao, both former football players. Lifetime Achievement award was conferred on Fernando Coutinho, long-standing Past President of Chandor Club and Donor of the land to construct the Club building.

Chief Guest Yuri Alemao, MLA Cuncolim constituency gave away the medals and the trophy to the winners. The runners-up trophy and medals were handed over by the guest of honour Altone D’Costa, MLA, Quepem Constituency.
