SOLVA -RAIA: Chandor Club edged past Parish Youth Nuvem 2-1 to move into the semi-final of the 49th Custodio Memorial football trophy tournament, organised by Raia Sporting Club, at Raia village panchayat ground, on Monday.
Chandor striker Frazier Gomes was the star of-the-match with his dribbling and shooting power.
PY Nuvem Sanford Colaco should have netted in sixth minute but his power-packed shot hit the Chandor cross bar and went out of play in the ninth minute.
Three minutes later, Chandor’s Sunny Fernandes after dribbling past the Nuvem defenders shot from close range but the Nuvem goalkeeper was equal to the task.
It was Sunny Fernandes who took a diving header which crushed into Nuvem net in the 18th minute off Frazier Gomes’ cross pass. Chandor’s Alreach Peixoto’ long ranger failed to pop up into the Nuvem net in the 38th minute. Alreach’s grounder missed the target by a whisker. It was Sunny Fernandes who netted his brace and made it 2-0 by a glancing header in the 47th minute
Chandor’s Fhezer Gomes missed two more chances to score in the 50th and 52nd minutes. It was of Nuvem’s Danny Fernandes who took a down ward header and made it 1-2 in the 54th minute
The man-of-the-match was presented to Frazier Gomes of Chandor Club by Luis Quadros ex- Sarpanch of VP Raia .
