MARGAO: After years of struggle, the Chandor Club House has finally taken shape and is all set for its inauguration on Sunday.
The Club House, spearheaded by President, Domnic Mendes and the Managing Committee having 19 members, have been glorified with an auditorium, gaming rooms, gymnasium, a badminton court and a swimming pool. The club boasts of a membership of more than 450 members.
Jose Fernando Gomes Coutinho, who held the post of the President of Chandor Club for 14 years and his wife Juliana Pinto Coutinho, generously donated 2,335 sq meters of land at Igorjebhat to the club in 1995.
A year later, the foundation stone for the club premises was laid and the work commenced in April 2000. Finance was a setback to further progress but the members faced all odds and toiled with a selfless zeal to combat the challenges.
The wheel of activities rotated each year with the Annual Seamen’s Trophy commencing on August 15, talent concert on January 1 and other annual events. The club’s football team is active in the inter-village football tournaments.
