RAIA: Chandor Club pipped 9-man Ambelim Sports Club 2-1 to move into the quarter-finals of the 22nd Bro Eulalio Vaz memorial football tournament organised by Don Bosco Oratory ground, Fatorda, on Tuesday.
Ambelim SC scored the fastest goal of the tournament in very first minute of the game through Velroy Rebello surprising Chandor Club players and also the spectators.
Stunned with the quick goal, Chandor Club regrouped and played an attacking football but had to wait till the 23rd minute to find the equaliser through Alreach Peixito, assisted by Joaquim Carvalho. Alreach’s powerful header placed the ball into the far corner of the net.
The second half begin with Chandor Club creating chances but Ambelim SC defence stood firm and gave no chance to score.
In the 43rd minute of play, Nash Pinto of Ambelim SC handled the ball in the danger area resulting to penalty kick which was well-converted by Chandor Club’s Rizben Fernandes to read the score 2-1.
Ambelim SC tried to find the equaliser but all efforts couldn’t produce any goal till the end of full time.
Joaquim Carvalho of Chandor Club was declared man-of-the-match and it was presented by Cyril, member of Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda.
