RAIA: Chandor SC scored a solitary goal win over CAC Cansaulim to move into the quarter-finals of the Cavelossim Villagers UK Cup organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim at the Fr Druston and Wellington ground, Cavelossim, on Tuesday.
Both the teams were well-matched in attack as well as in defence. In the 15th minute, Sevaraj of Chandor SC dribbled past Samuel Barreto and Elvino Fernandes and tapped the ball to Alrich Peixoto, who was overpowered in the nick of time by Reagan Soares of CAC Cansaulim.
CAC Cansaulim also had the share of opportunities with Asher Correia and Jovito De Souza crossing the ball into the Chandor SC area but the tall Chandor SC defenders, led by Viton Fernandes did not give any room to score.
However, Chandor SC got a 30-yard free-kick which was taken by Fayden Pereira, who fed a cross in the CAC Cansaulim half which got lobbed in the goal area and entered the nylons for a soft goal for Chandor SC as CAC keeper Gavriel Barreto failed to judge the flight of the ball which turned out to be the match-winner for Chandor SC.
