Chandor SC reign supreme

Upset Ambelim SC in the penalty shoot-out after a goalless draw

MARGAO: Chandor Sports Club got the better of Ambelim Sports Club 5-4 via the tie-breaker in the final of the 42nd Seamen Trophy Football tournament, organized by Chandor SC, at Chandor ground, on Sunday. There was no score at full time. 
Ambelim SC created openings early on through Donald Rocha. However, the latter’s shot was blocked by rival defender Ivon Pinto in the seventh minute.
Thereafter, Chandor SC came close to scoring but Stan’s shot hit the crosspiece in the 23rd minute and the ball went out of play. 
Crossing over, the teams tried to score but their defence stood rock solid. 
In the 39th minute, Ambelim SC’s Rolee Colaco’s promising move was foiled by the rival defence. 
Subsequently, Chandor SC missed to score as Jeston Martins’ efforts in the 43rd and 45th minute went wide. 
In the tie-breaker, Chandor SC scored through Ivon Pinto, Soccoro Fernandes, Melroy Moura, Seby Fernandes and Stanley Fernandes while Ambelim SC converted through Donald Rocha, Rolee Colaco, Blasco Fernandes and Nial Cardoza.
Braz Alemao was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of parish priest of Chandor Fr Saude Pereira, guest of honour and sarpanch of Village Panchayat of Chandor-Cavorim Etelvina Travasso, club officials and other dignitaries. Earlier, MLA of Velim Constituency Benjamin Silva was also present. 
The winners were awarded Rs 42,000 and a trophy while the runners-up had to be content with Rs 32,000 and a trophy.  
The following individual prizes were awarded to 
Best midfielder of the final: Donald Rocha. Best forward of the tournament: Jeston Martins of Chandor SC. Best defender: Ivon Pinto of Chandor SC. Best goalkeeper: Presley Mascarenhas of Chandor SC and Player of the tournament: Jeston Martins of Chandor SC.
Maxie Andrade welcomed. Domnic Mendes introduced the guests to the teams and officials while Joy D’Silva and Jaison Colaco compered. Joy later proposed the vote of thanks.
