RAIA: Chandrawaddo Boys, Fatorda, secured the final berth of 17th Rebello Pandal All-Goa Oapen Football tournament organiseda by Rebello Pandal, Maina-Curtorim, piping Rosary Boys, Davorlim, 1-0 at St Rita Church ground, Maina-Curtorim, on Wednesday.
The semi-final match began with fast pace and both teams played decent brand of football with short passes and control of the game from end to end contest. Hanshlum Furtado of Chandrawaddo Boys missed the opportunity to score in 14th minute of play as his header was off the target, while Reev D’Costa of Rosary Boys left footer punched away for a corner by Chandrawaddo Boys goalkeeper Karol Soares before half time.
At end of half time, both teams remained at 0-0 goalless draw.
As the second half began, Prestly Gomes of Rosary Boys’ power-packed shot from the centre hit the cross bar, while Cliff Barreto right footer from the edge of box was punched away by Rosary Boys goalkeeper Francisco Colaco in the 40th minute.
The match winning goal was scored by Rahul Sharma, of a header from the free-kick taken by Wedly in the 47th minute. Then Rosary Boys’ Prince Figueiredo, Veron and Rayan Colaco combination tried to find an equaliser but Chandrawaddo’s defence consisting of Roque Borges, Alfred and Wedly remained firmly and denied Rosary Boys’ the much-needed equaliser till the final whistle.
Edwin Sequeira, football player, presented the man-of-the-match to Rosary Boys goalkeeper Francisco Colaco.
