RAIA: Chandrawaddo Boys, Fatorda, defeated ABC 13, Maina, 6-5 via tie-breaker in the final to clinch the 17th Rebello Pandal All-Goa Open Trophy organised by Rebello Pandal, Maina, at St Rita Church ground, on Sunday.
The exciting final was played on Easter Sunday in front oaf large crowd and both teams exhibited theira talents and kept the football fans on their toes. It waas Chandrawaddo Boys’ Hanshlum Furtado who opened the account in 18th minute of play beating ABC 13 goalkeeper Stanley with a neat placement.
In the next minute, ABC 13’s Nickson shot missed the target. At half time, Chandrawaddo Boys were leading 1-0.
After resumption of second half, ABC 13 changed their plans and made a substitution by bringing in Chaddu, who scored the equaliser in the 36th minute with a header.
Later on, ABC 13 increased the lead adue to Chandrawaddo Boys goalkeeper’s misjudgement ina the 45th minute of play. As the match was heading for injury time, Cliff Barreto’s long-ranger shot entered into the ABC 13 net.
At the end of regulation time, the match ended in a 2-2 draw making way for penalty shoot-out.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Chandrawaddo Boys proved to be the better shooters.
Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Fr Domnic Vas, parish priest of St Rita Church, Maina; Alexinho Da Silva, John Angelius Rebello, club officials and other dignitaries.
