The love for sports keeps growing and it is nothing new when the girl child decides to pursue a particular sport. Chelsea Melanie Fernandes a student of St Mary of Angels Convent High School, Chinchinim got grip of SQAY Martial Arts at a tender age which has seen her reach soaring heights in a couple of years.
The SQAY Martial artist said, “I am very happy to have won medals at the National level for 3 consecutive years. I also secured a bronze medal U-56kg in 2017-2018 held in Goa.”
Chelsea owed her success to the support that she received over their years and said, “My headmistress Sr. Flavia, My PT teacher Vera my parents and my coach Suresh Kumar along with others gave all the support and co-operation to reach my goal. Recently I had my second glorious victory in Kathmandu where I got two gold medals in Mix K-1 and in Loba (fighting) in -54kg.”
Chelsea while urging the youth said, “My advice to all the youth is to participate actively in all physical activities and sports. At the same time, sports and studies should go hand in hand. Lagging behind is not a big problem because success takes time.”
Despite winning honours at numerous events, the SQAY Martial artist has not forgotten her roots as she revealed the set-backs she faced along the way.
“Earlier, there was no immediate success but I kept trying my best. Courage is not the absence of fear but the triumph over it. Fear is a natural emotion as all human beings have to go through it. At some point of life one has to be able to stand up and do their best,” shared Chelsea.
