PER-SERAULIM: Chinchinim Veterans edged past Albert Developers 1-0 to clinch the Flame of Unity Veterans Cup, played at Per-Seraulim ground, recently.
Both the teams started the match on an attacking note however in the second minute itself Chinchinim’s Urbano Fernandes should have scored but Shekar Shirodkar of Albert Developers tackled his move in the 4th minute.
Albert Developer’s had their share of chances as Baptist D’Mello released a powerpacked shot but the rival keeper was up to the mark as he saved it brilliantly.
Chinchinim Veterans in the 17th minute scored the solitary goal of the match through Jerry Fernandes with a placement shot and defended their citadel well to keep the rival strikers at bay. Albert Developers tried to level terms but the defence line of Chinchinim stood solid rock till the end.
The winners were awarded Rs 30,000 while the runners-up bagged Rs 20,000 plus trophies. MLA of Benaulim Constituency Churchill Alemao was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to winners and runners up in the presence of sarpanch of Seraulim Domnic Fernandes, ZP member Nelly Rodrigues and other dignitaries.
